I Stepped Outside Early One Morning and Found Something I Couldn’t Explain at First

Early one morning, I stepped outside to enjoy some fresh air when something unusual on the ground immediately caught my attention. Slowly moving across the damp soil was a long, dark creature unlike any worm I had ever seen. At first glance, I assumed it was simply an earthworm that looked a little different. But as I watched more closely, I realized it moved in a completely different way.

Instead of wriggling through the dirt, it glided smoothly across the surface. Its body appeared glossy, marked with faint lines along its length. What stood out most was its head—broad, flat, and shaped almost like a tiny shovel. The strange appearance made me curious, but also cautious enough to keep my distance.

Rather than trying to touch it, I observed quietly from several feet away. The flattened head moved slowly from side to side, as if searching for something beneath the soil. It moved with calm, deliberate precision, never rushing. After watching for a few minutes, I took a photo and later used reliable nature guides to find out exactly what I had seen.
