Actress Phyllida Law, mother of Emma Thompson and Sophie Thompson, dies at 94

She went on to build a career that began in the 1950s and continued for a decade. She appeared in many productions, including Much Ado About Nothing,The Time Machine, and Nanny McPhee.

Phyllida Law also became a familiar face on British television. Some of her notable appearances included roles in Midsomer Murders, Waking the Dead, Foyle’s War and Doc Martin.

However, while she had an incredible career of her own, many fans might recognize Phyllida Law mostly for her special performances when she shared the screen with her daughters, Emma and Sophie Thompson, whom she had with her husband Eric. He sadly passed away in 1982.

Actress Phyllida Law dies at 94
Law appeared alongside Emma in several productions, including Much Ado About Nothing and Nanny McPhee. Also, the pair played mother and daughter in the 1997 film The Winter Guest, directed by Alan Rickman.

The actress also appeared alongside her other daughter, Sophie Thompson, in the 1996 film Emma, among other productions

Phyllida Law was also active with work in front of the camera and on the stage. She was also an author, writing several memoirs. She was honored with an OBE in 2014 for her contributions to drama and charitable work.

Her final role came in the 2020 movie Then Came You. Law is survived by her daughters and four grandchildren.
