“So, we just decided to see where life took us, with a very, very healthy, realistic expectation, which was very low.”

Less than a month later, however, it wasn’t Hathaway’s words about her pregnancy that had people talking – it was her baby bump.

‘That looks fake’
On Aug. 9, Hathaway arrived at the Los Angeles world premiere of The End of Oak Street wearing a blue silk top that was cropped in the front but swept to the floor behind her, paired with low-rise jeans that left her pregnant belly completely exposed.

Photos and videos of The Princess Diaries star quickly spread online, but rather than simply discussing her daring maternity look, some viewers became convinced there was something unusual about her bump.

“I’m sorry but that looks fake,” one person commented on a TikTok video of Hathaway at the premiere.

“Fake as anything, seriously actors will be actors,” a second wrote, while a third added, “Oh, come on. That is not real.”

With the images continuing to attract attention, Hathaway didn’t leave much room for speculation about whether the pregnancy she had announced nearly two months earlier was genuine.

‘Real bump’
The following day, the Oscar-winning actor shared a clip on social media, taking followers behind the scenes as she prepared for and headed to the End of Oak Street red carpet.

And tucked into the caption was a cheeky answer for everyone who had spent the previous day scrutinizing her stomach.

“Fake hair, real bump,” Hathaway wrote.

She then turned the attention back to her new movie and the sweltering conditions surrounding its premiere, adding: “Enjoy The End of Oak Street Block Party chaos with me as my outfit literally melts in the heat!!”

After weeks of happily discussing her surprise “buzzer-beater” pregnancy, Anne Hathaway apparently didn’t feel the need for a lengthy explanation when strangers questioned whether her baby bump was real – four words were enough to put her response on the record.
