6. The Billionaire Refuses Reality
For a moment, Evelyn Harrington did not move.
Then she laughed.
A short, sharp sound.
“Do you understand what you’re saying?” she asked. “My son died five years ago. He had no wife. No children. No secrets that I didn’t know about.”
Lila’s voice shook.
“He didn’t die.”
That sentence hit harder than any accusation.
Evelyn stepped closer.
“What did you say?”
Lila swallowed.
“I said he didn’t die. Not the way you think he did.”
The baby shifted again, letting out a soft cry.
And for the first time, Evelyn’s composure cracked.
7. The Name That Shouldn’t Exist
Evelyn’s mind raced.
Every official document. Every investigation. Every report she had personally reviewed.
Adrian Harrington, deceased.
Confirmed.
Buried.
Mourned.
But standing in front of her now was a woman who claimed otherwise.
And a baby who—impossibly—had the Harrington eyes.
Evelyn’s voice dropped.
“Tell me exactly what you mean.”
Lila hesitated.
Then she said the words that changed everything.
“He didn’t die in that crash. He was taken.”
8. The Truth Buried Under Wealth
The wind picked up again.
Evelyn’s expression hardened, but something beneath it shifted—unease, sharp and unfamiliar.
“That’s a ridiculous claim,” she said. “Who would take my son?”
Lila looked down at the baby.
“Someone who wanted his company,” she said quietly. “Someone who knew what he was about to expose.”
Evelyn went still.
Because Adrian had been working on something before his death.
Something he refused to share with the family.
