A RUDE WOMAN TOOK THE WINDOW SEAT I’D PAID FOR SO MY 6-YEAR-OLD AUTISTIC DAUGHTER COULD SIT THERE — SO THE PILOT TAUGHT HER A LESSON SHE’D NEVER FORGET. My six-year-old daughter, Emma, has autism. After my husband passed away two years ago, I decided it was finally time for us to have something normal again — a simple four-day beach vacation. It was going to be her very first flight, and I had reserved seat 7A BY THE WINDOW for Emma and seat 7B for myself. That mattered to her because looking out at the sky and sunlight helped calm her whenever she had a meltdown. When we reached our row, a woman was already sitting in 7A. I said: “Excuse me, ma’am. I think those are our seats.” She immediately scoffed and said she’d ALSO paid for the window seat. A flight attendant checked our boarding passes, sighed, and said: “I’m so sorry, ma’am. The aircraft was changed this morning. Some passengers were automatically reassigned, and there was a mistake. This seat was accidentally assigned to two passengers.” I explained that it was very important for Emma to have a window seat. The flight attendant turned to the woman and politely asked if she’d be willing to move to an available seat a few rows behind us. The woman frowned and said: “I PAID for a window seat, and I’m NOT moving. THAT’S NOT MY PROBLEM.” I looked at her and said: “Ma’am, please. I paid for a window seat too, and it’s important for my daughter.” She replied: “Why should I move? I’m ALREADY settled.” I didn’t want to create a scene in front of my daughter, so we walked away. We took the available seats that weren’t by a window, and I silently hoped Emma wouldn’t have a meltdown during the five-hour flight. Once we were in the air, the pilot welcomed everyone over the PA system. Then he said: “To the passenger sitting in seat 7A, we have a SPECIAL GIFT for you.
