You can live with someone, spend an entire weekend together, share meals, watch movies, laugh about silly things, and still discover that they have belongings you know absolutely nothing about.
That was exactly what happened to me.
After my girlfriend spent the weekend at my apartment, I was cleaning up the following afternoon. There were the usual signs that someone had stayed over: a sweater draped across the back of a chair, a phone charger beside the couch, a coffee mug sitting where it shouldn’t have been, and a few toiletries in the bathroom.
Nothing unusual.
Then I noticed something sitting on my nightstand.

At first, I assumed it was some kind of decorative piece. It was beautifully made, with a smooth amber-colored appearance that caught the light. It looked almost like something that belonged in an antique shop rather than on my bedside table.
I picked it up.
It was surprisingly solid and cool against my fingers.
The object was small enough to fit comfortably in one hand. One end had a rounded ball-like shape, while the opposite end narrowed into a smaller rounded tip.
There were no buttons.
No batteries.
No switches.
No writing.
No brand name.
No obvious clue explaining what it was supposed to do.
I turned it around several times, hoping that some hidden feature would reveal its purpose.
Nothing.
I stared at it.
Then I stared at it some more.
And eventually, I started wondering whether I should ask my girlfriend about it.
That was when things became awkward.

My first thought was simple: *Just ask her.*

Four words.
