What Do You Think It Means?

What Do You Think It Means?

There is a problem when marketing turns a simple relaxation product into a supposed miracle cure.

## I Finally Asked Her

After spending far too much time investigating the object myself, I eventually decided there was no reason to remain embarrassed.

I texted my girlfriend.

I asked her what the little glass object was.

Her response was almost exactly what I expected.

She wasn’t shocked.

She wasn’t embarrassed.

She didn’t think the question was strange.

She simply explained what it was and what she used it for.

I sat there looking at my phone and laughed.

All that hesitation.

All those guesses.

All those internet searches.

And I could have gotten the answer in one sentence.

She had apparently assumed I knew what it was.

I had assumed she would think it was weird that I didn’t.

Neither of us had any reason to feel awkward.

## The Bigger Lesson

The experience seems funny now, but it taught me a surprisingly useful lesson about communication.

We sometimes create awkward situations entirely inside our own heads.

We imagine how another person might react before we give them the opportunity to respond.

We worry about embarrassment before anything embarrassing has actually happened.

We turn simple questions into complicated mysteries.

And sometimes, the easiest solution is simply to ask.

There was nothing inappropriate about being curious about an unfamiliar object.

There was nothing shameful about not recognizing it.

And there was certainly no reason for me to spend half an afternoon investigating it like I was solving a crime.

Still, I’m glad I searched for it.

The journey introduced me to a world of wellness practices I had never really considered.

It also reminded me that everyday objects can have surprisingly interesting stories behind them.

## The Little Glass Object Wasn’t So Mysterious After All

When I first saw that amber-colored glass object sitting on my nightstand, I had no idea what it was.

For several minutes, I imagined every possible explanation.

Maybe it was decorative.

Maybe it was medical.

Maybe it belonged to a beauty routine.

Maybe it was something personal that I absolutely shouldn’t be asking about.

In the end, it was simply a wellness and massage-related object—something designed for personal care and relaxation.

Nothing scandalous.

Nothing mysterious.

Nothing worth panicking over.

Just an unfamiliar tool that I had never encountered before.

And perhaps that’s the most interesting thing about the entire experience.

The world is filled with objects we don’t recognize.

Some have historical significance.

Some have practical purposes.

Some are designed for hobbies, beauty, relaxation, cooking, exercise, or personal care.

And sometimes, one of those objects ends up sitting on your nightstand after your girlfriend leaves.

When that happens, you have two choices.

You can spend hours staring at it and inventing increasingly ridiculous theories.

Or you can simply ask.

I eventually chose both.

And while the second option would have saved me quite a bit of time, the first gave me a fascinating lesson in curiosity, wellness, and the surprisingly complicated world hiding behind ordinary-looking objects.

So the next time you discover something unfamiliar in your home, don’t be embarrassed.

Take a closer look.

Ask a question.

Do a little research.

And remember that not knowing what something is doesn’t make you ignorant.

It simply means you’ve discovered something new.

As for that little amber glass object?

The mystery is finally solved.

And now, whenever I see one, I don’t wonder whether I’ve stumbled across some bizarre piece of equipment.

I just smile and think about how an ordinary afternoon of cleaning my apartment turned into one of the strangest—and unexpectedly educational—rabbit holes I’ve ever fallen into.
