The colorful strip of fabric you often see placed across the foot of a hotel bed is called a bed runner, and it has a more practical purpose than most guests realize.
At first glance, it may look like a simple decorative detail meant to match the room’s design. However, hotels use it as part of a system to keep bedding cleaner and more durable for everyday guest use.
One of its main functions is hygiene protection. Guests frequently sit on the bed with outside clothes, or place items like bags, jackets, or luggage on top of it. The bed runner creates a barrier between these items and the white sheets underneath.
