The first line read:
“If you’re reading this letter, it means I haven’t been able to keep my promise to be by your side.”
Tears clouded her eyes.
Robert turned slowly into the window.
“I tried to convince him to stay.”
“But he told me something I’ll never forget.”
The doctor closed his eyes for a while.
“Daddy… I’d rather hate me because I left than remember forever the man who died in front of her eyes.”
Joanna burst into sobs, holding the newborn tightly in her arms.
Then Dr. Wright, knelt down next to her bed.
Look at the baby.
And with a voice breaking from emotion, he said:
“I couldn’t save my son.”
He gently put his hand on the baby’s tiny hand.
“But if you allow me… I would like to meet my grandson.”

Joanna couldn’t talk.
She held the newborn tightly in her arms, while tears flowed endlessly.
Everything he believed for seven months had collapsed in minutes.
He hadn’t abandoned her.
He had protected her.
Or at least that’s what he thought.
The dr. Robert Wright was still standing beside her.
“I don’t expect you to forgive me,” he said in a low voice.
“I should have told you the truth from the very first moment.”
Joanna looked at him.
“Why didn’t you do it?”
The old doctor lowered his eyes.
“It was Logan’s last wish.”
He opened the file and put out a second letter.
“She asked me to deliver her only after the child was born.”
Joanna took the letter with trembling hands.
The writing was Logan’s.
He recognized her immediately.
“My dear Joanna,
If you’re reading this letter, it means I didn’t make it.
I know you’re gonna hate me. And you may have every right.
But I couldn’t bear to see you lose me a little bit every day.
I wanted you to remember me strong. Remember my smile, not hospitals.
And above all… I wanted our child to be born without carrying the fear of my death.
Always tell him that his father loved it before he even heard his first breath.
I love you more than the words can ever be described.
